Four volumes of Al-Asl maa Ahadithihi wa Usulihi are now ready, out of a work expected to run to about thirty-six. He sets out what the book does: three hadiths beneath every ruling of Imam Muhammad's al-Asl, drawn only from the early collections, among them the six books, the Musannafs of Ibn Abi Shaybah and Abd al-Razzaq, Musnad Ahmad, al-Tabarani and al-Daraqutni; and every proof marked, with its full reference, as a verse, a hadith, a saying of a Companion or a saying of a Successor. With that, he says, nobody will be able to claim the Hanafis have no hadith. The same work is already complete on al-Hidayah, al-Quduri and Nur al-Idah.
