A second reply to the fatwa holding that Saudi Arabia does not use the astronomical new moon for its months. Whenever the Saudi royal court announces a month, he says, the anchor reads out that the decision is according to the Umm al-Qura calendar, and he points to the announcement for Ramadan 1431, in 2010, as one example. Even at the two Eids, where a sighting is put on show, the witnesses are made to testify in line with that calendar. Since it is built on one degree, at which the crescent can never be seen, he asks that a ruling on an obligatory fast be checked before it is given.
