Dar al-Aman mein Rehne ke Tariqe gives forty-five points of Qur'an- and hadith-based guidance on peaceful Muslim life in Britain and other non-Muslim countries.

Dar al-Aman mein Rehne ke Tariqe is the Britain-focused Urdu edition of a work on how Muslims should live as a minority in a non-Muslim country. Its forty-five numbered sections move from ordinary neighbourliness to public responsibility: meeting people with a smile, helping those in need, dealing justly, keeping the law, paying taxes, rejecting hate speech and violence, and respecting the festivals, funerals and places of worship of others.

The argument is framed in the Qur’an and hadith. It holds together two duties that can be pulled apart in public discussion: Muslims should preserve their religion, and they should serve the country in which they live. The book repeatedly distinguishes peaceful civic participation from conduct it rejects outright, including conspiracy against the state, attacks on public places, killing an innocent person and insulting another religion or its leaders.

The last sections turn to wartime conduct and to migration. Even in war, it says, women, children, the elderly, traders, farmers, religious people and others outside the fighting are not to be killed. It closes by urging readers to live securely, honour others and deal with them in love and goodwill.

The India adaptation carries the same forty-five subjects in the same order, with its setting rewritten for a democratic country and the East. Both Urdu forms and both English translations are grouped here as four regional-language editions of one work.

Completed in Manchester on 9 May 2014 and published by Maktaba Thamir.
